Less Is More?

You always hear the odd person saying - whether talking about clothing, or make up - that less is more. In my opinion the exception to this rule is decoration; especially the decoration bedrooms. I love rooms filled with lots of decoration, as long as everything has its own place and looks pretty neat, otherwise the room will start to look cluttered and messy. I can't stand a messy bedroom. I desperately want to decorate my room, but for starters, my room isn't big enough for me to have all the decorations my dream room requires.

I adore all the decorations in this room; I especially love the bed's headboard. The colours of the room - blue and white - make it look fresh and clean. This room shows how you can have a lovely decorated room without the need for wallpaper.

This room is perfectly decorated, the french-style bed makes the room seem more glamorous, especially with the throw and cushions. The bird-cage mirrors are my favourite part of the room!

This room has a lot to it, but it doesn't look cluttered at all. Although its not really the type of decoration I would go for (simply for the reason that it isn't 'me'), I love the wallpaper, and all the decorations.

If you feel that you're room is looking a little plain/simple - there are two ways to sort this problem. Either, hang up some paintings/pictures on the wall, this is an easy way to use up space and add decoration. Or, get yourself a vintage looking dressing table. I love them, they instantly make a room seem more glamorous!

The New Brit Award

This image is the new Brit Award for 2011, designed by the Dame herself: Vivienne Westwood. The new tradition is that every year a leading British designer will create the Brit award, and this year it was Westwoods turn. Putting the award in a Union Flag print toga dress and writing at the bottom (in her true eco-warrior style!) 'Stop! Climate Change' and putting the Vivienne Westwood logo on the helmet.

I am undecided whether or not I like this new tradition. I believe the original Brit was legendary and therefore recognizable around the world, and the fact that it had the same image for many of years makes it something to treasure when received, and I can't help but feel that by re-designing it they are taking away some of it's sentimental value...

But what do you think? Yes/No to this new tradition? And what do you think of Vivienne Westwoods design? I have to say, although I am against the new tradition, the design is sleek, relevant and patriotic, but I want to hear your thoughts so leave a comment and let me know!

Inspiration: Short Hair

Lily Loveless (Naomi, seasons 3 & 4 of Skins) pulls off this bobbed length hair. The length and bleached colour suits her perfectly, and doesn't wash out, but enhances her pale complexion.

The above and below pictures of Scarlett Johansen show how you can style this above-the-shoulder length hair... either sweet and curly, or messy and wavy. Both ways look great and this style will suit most face shapes!

Definitely my favourite image of shorter hair, Anne Hathaway pulls off the length and side parting perfectly and in fact, makes me want this length hair so I can style it up just how she has! Beautiful!

Obviously, the lovely, but controversial cropped style of Emma Watson. Making headlines over the world, the Harry Potter stars' new hair do' has caused many opinions. I think, it suits her beautifully (even though I did LOVE her longer hair!) And for those out there with her lucky face shape, it is definitely something to do if you're brave enough!

Last but not least, the wonderful Agyness Deyn. Her boyish style, and versatile crop see her do many things. Whether curled with few extensions, or roughed up and messy she still looks great. For those after a more edgy version of the crop a picture of Deyn is the one to take to the hairdressers!

I hope this post gives some readers inspiration for new hair styles, ways of coping and looking great with shorter hair, and if like me you regret having your hair cut off, I hope it makes you realize that it wasn't a bad decision after all! I know the selected pictures are not a very diverse selection but I hope they inspire someone :)

Alice Dellal.

For my textiles coursework, I have to create a garment inspired from the theme of Punk. Also, I had to choose a client to get 'ideas' from- and I chose Alice Dellal.
I'm completely in love with how she is soooo unique in what she wears, but definitely keeps in with the current trends- making her one of the hottest and most in demand models of todays generation!

This picture is one of my favourites what I found so far!

She's wearing vintage levis shorts, which are going to be big this spring/summer- again!
The cropped/bandeau top speaks complete effortless style, and I looooove it. I've taken inspiration from this image, and i've actually chosen to make a bandeau top, and i'm still indecisive as to whether I should make the shorts or not? any advice? feel free to help ;)
I also want to say that I think her hair is crazy-cool. I recently cut my hair off, to a kinda bob length.. and I regret it big time! I want long hair again!
Alice Dellal's style is so effortless, but at the same time works so well together, and she is one of few celebrities that wear what they want, not what makes you look better then anyone else- I really like that in her!

Tell me what you think about her style, and also any suggestions for my textiles project would be great!
Hope everyone is having a good week so far! :)

Music: Kings Of Leon

'Come Around Sundown' is the latest album by the ever brilliant Kings Of Leon. The dusty, rough and relaxing feel that I get from listening to this album is priceless and I have to say one of my favourite albums of 2010 (along with Ellie Goulding's 'Lights', Lissie's 'Catching A Tiger' and although released way back in 2006 Fionn Regan's 'The End of History' also makes the list, as I only really 'discovered' his music in 2010).
My favourite songs from 'Come Around Sundown' have to be: Radioactive (The first single released from the album, and also the single nominated for the 53rd Grammy Award in two categories!) Beach Side (Something about this song just makes me want... to be beach side! It's easy, chilled, and the vocals are so smooth and catchy) and finally Pick Up Truck (I just like this song, sometimes you don't need to explain yourself).

Listen to the brilliant 'Radioactive' below, and youtube the others, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Also, on a different note, how much is everyone craving summer? I know I definitely am! I miss the anticipation that my holiday was getting nearer and nearer, the fact that life seems so much brighter, and arrangements are easier to make as there is more to do!

However, my new coat has just arrived fresh from Topshop and in some selfish way I'd like winter to last a little longer just so I can live in my coat...

Vogue: January Issue

So, I'm on the internet, and I'm suppose to be doing some really important textiles coursework, but I couldn't keep myself away from the vogue website today- to see who was gracing the cover for January and February.

Once again, Vogue have impressed me, by having the beautiful Keira Knightley on the January issue.
Mario Testino (photographer of the shoot) has produced an amazing cover archive for this month of Vogue.
Keira Knightley was wearing a chiffon halter-neck dress by Dolce and Gabanna teamed with black and white bangles both from Linda Bee- love it! The halter-neck dress is a bold, black and white print- which links to what I posted yesterday, about the 70's designs and bold prints.
I went through a stage of being so obsessed with this site, its soooo helpful with different things: beauty, jewellery, trends, fashions shows etc. You see why I was obsessed with it now? ;)
But, I'm also super excited for the Victoria Beckham issue in February..i'll post about my opinions!

New Years

So 2011 has finally arrived, and I find it so intriguing and exciting, not knowing what this year will bring for everyone. But first off all- new years resolution; Mine is the usual- get into shape, and hit the gym..i'll keep you posted as to how that works out for me haha.

But most of all..a new season! With all the spare time on my hands this holidays, i've been looking at my favourite highstreet website- Topshop; They're giving a preview to the trends of S/S 2011. My favourite has to be the cut-out detailing, and the 70s-esque silhouettes plastered with bold prints..i cannot wait til the sun starts shining, to overcome this gloomy weather the UK has at the moment..and the dreading thought of school. Anyone else feel the same?

Well, i hope you all have a great 2011, and it brings you everything you want and need!
